Yellowcraig Beach 1

£450.00

This is one of my favourite parts of the world and probably my favourite beach, I can sit and paint and watch the sea and sky for hours. The Scottish scrubland and dunes lead to the long beach with the distinctive Bass Rock, Craigleith and Fidra just offshore. I wanted to capture the late afternoon light as it tinged the clouds to the east with pink.

This painting is made with water-based oil paints, which are more environmentally friendly than traditional oils as they can be washed in water rather than white spirit. The familiar textural look and feel is present in the waves and grass.

Typically, a painting this size will take a few months to complete as oil takes about 2 weeks to dry so each layer has to wait whilst I work on something else., becoming slower the more paint you use, as the “fat over thin” technique is used with these paints, so when it is very thick and being spread with a palette knife, it can sometimes takes more than 2 weeks to dry.

Framed 53cms by 43cms x 3 cms.
