My name is Sasha Mayes.

I am a Marine Artist.

I have spent my life working in the NHS as a Chartered Physiotherapist and am a mum with teenage sons and lots of animals. They keep me busy and I obviously love them all but now I want to develop my fine art skills and share them with you.

My artwork has moved to a marine focus, in both ceramics and mixed media/oil painting. Depending on my latest inspiration or muse, it will send me into my studio to paint for hours on end or to sculpt or throw clay with a passion!

Corals and sea creatures, real and imagined are my focus, and I plan to combine my love of painting and ceramics by developing my use of glazes and decorating techniques.

My pieces are a mix of functional and decorative, recognising the fragility of coral reefs in the delicate clay fronds I sometimes lose in the kiln firing process, the fluidity of waves and water in the shapes and colours of my bowls and the beautiful tones of blues, greens and purples from under the sea, where my love of scuba diving has inspired my art.

Instead of taking from the sea, I want to give back and offer you something beautiful to have in your home, made from the earth by hand with love and care so we can protect our oceans and leave no trace behind when we visit them.
